Dr Tatjana Trtić-Petrović
is a passionate scientist and a leader in green chemistry.
She is a Principal Research Fellow at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences (VINS), where she leads the Separation Chemistry Group with dedication and vision. She also heads the research theme “Developing Green Solvents and Processes,” pushing the boundaries of sustainable chemistry both regionally and internationally.
Beyond the lab, Dr. Trtić-Petrović is a devoted mentor, passionately guiding Ph.D. students through the complexities of scientific research with a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. She not only imparts knowledge but also inspires critical thinking, nurtures scientific curiosity, and supports the next generation of researchers in developing sustainable, impactful dissertations.
Her work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach within both national and international research environments. Her scientific focus lies in developing green separation methods by replacing traditional organic solvents with ionic liquids and eutectic solvents, and minimizing solvent use through microporous membrane technologies. She is not only a research leader—she is a bridge builder between science and sustainability, theory and practice, local and global collaboration.

Dr Goran Vladisavljević
is among the world’s leading scientists in the specific part of biotechnology oriented to encapsulation by membrane processes and emulsification (Google Scholar: >8200 citations, h-index = 54, 2023 Stanford’s List of World’s Top 2% Scientists).His scientific papers are frequently placed on the Science Direct TOP25 Hottest Articles lists, Most Downloaded Articles list of high-impact factor journals, and named Highly Cited Papers by the Web of Knowledge.
The research activities in his Particle Microfluidics Group (PMG) at ULB are focused on the development of membrane and microfluidic dispersion and micromixing processes for manufacturing smart, functional micro and nanoparticles for applications in functional foods, controlled drug delivery, carbon capture, thermal energy storage, medical diagnostics, adsorption, and catalysis. He is a leader of PMG Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at ULB.

Dr Nada Ćujić Nikolić
is a highly accomplished Senior Research Associate employed in the Department for Pharmaceutical Research and Development at the IPLB. Her research focuses on pharmaceutical and technological investigations, optimization of extraction methods (with an emphasis on green extractions), and the development of new pharmaceutical preparations based on medicinal herbs.
She is recognized for her expertise in novel microencapsulation techniques using modern pharmaceutical carriers, the characterization of micro-sized systems, and the exploitation of waste by-products in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
Dr Ćujić Nikolić’s authored/co-authored numerous chapters, monographs, and conference papers, establishing herself as a respected authority in the fields of Food and Medicinal plants Science and Technology. Based on the assessment of excellence of the relevant Ministry of Science, Dr Ćujić Nikolić was included in the executive 10% of researchers in the field of biotechnological sciences.

Dr Ksenija Kumrić
is a highly skilled Principal Research Fellow at VINS. Her research interests focus on the development and application of different separation processes, primarily membrane-based liquid-liquid microextraction, solid-phase extraction, and adsorption, and their application in the field of radiochemistry, analytical, and environmental chemistry.
She is recognized especially for her contribution to the development of membrane-based microextraction processes in continuous contactors for use in radiopharmaceutical preparations, as well as through the development of (i) solid-phase extraction processes for the preconcentration of trace-level contaminants prior to their determination by various instrumental techniques and (ii) adsorption processes for application in wastewater treatment.

Dajana Lazarević
Ph.D. student in VINS (3rd year) supervised by PI. She spent two months (ERASMUS) at the University of Aveiro supervised by dr Mara Freire, and learned synthesis and characterization of IL, solid-liquids extraction of BACs from biomass.
She was awarded the Best Poster Presentation for their work titled “Optimizing the Extraction of Parthenolide from Feverfew: An Experimental Design Approach” at the 21st IUPAC International Symposium on Solubility Phenomena and Related Equilibrium Processes.

Jelena Jovanović
Ph.D.student in VINS (2nd year) supervised by PI. She works on the synthesis of ILs and NADES and their application for the isolation of food colors.

Katarina Stanković
is a Ph.D. student and Research Assistant at VINS supervised by TM3. Her active research work is focused on the development of separation processes, primarily adsorption using different materials (biopolymers, carbon materials, clay) to purify wastewater from various inorganic (heavy metals) and organic (pesticides, dyes) pollutants, before their release into natural waterways.
Her published work at an international conference was chosen as one of the three best papers by the Organizing Committee at the 57th Meeting of the Serbian Chemical Society in 2021.

Katarina Šavikin
Katarina Šavikin received her primary, secondary and university education in Belgrade. She entered the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Belgrade in 1985. and graduated in April 1990, with an average grade of 9.21. During her studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy, she was a scholarship recipient of the Foundation for Young Talents.
After graduating, she enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Biology, Department of Plant Physiology. She defended her master’s thesis in June 1993 and earned the title of Master of Biological Sciences. For her master’s thesis, she received an award from the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.
She defended her doctoral dissertation in december 1996 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade.
She obtained the title of scientific associate on April 30, 1997, the title of senior scientific associate on October 31, 2000, and was promoted to the title of scientific advisor on March 4, 2004. In 2018, she was elected to the position of full professor for the narrow field of Pharmaceutical Science.
Since March 1995, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plants Research “Dr Josif Pančić” and currently holds the position of scientific advisor in the Science Department. She is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute, as well as the Parent Scientific Committee for Biotechnology and Agriculture of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia.
She participated in 12 projects of the relevant Ministry, in 5 of which she was the manager, in a number of international and bilateral projects (SEERA.NET Plus; HORIZON 2020-MSCA-RISE; Cross-border Program Serbia – Montenegro IPA II; OPCW; UNESCO; bilateral projects with France, China, Austria, Slovenia, Montenegro, Croatia), projects of the Fund for Innovations (Science and Economy Cooperation Program; Innovation Vouchers) as well as in a series of development researches of the Institute that resulted in new products on the market.
She has published over 300 scientific papers. The citation index (h-index) is 42 with 5,809 citations according to the Scopus index database. She is on the list of 10% executive researchers of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation. From 2020., she is on the Stanford list of 2% of the most influential scientists in the world.
As a mentor or committee member, she participated in the preparation of 2 master’s theses and 16 doctoral dissertations. She is a reviewer or guest editor for a number of international journals and a member of the Society for Medicinal Plants Research (GA), Germany.
The narrower areas of scientific interests are pharmacognosy, phytotherapy, ethnomedicine, natural products, “green extractions”, development research in formulation of new herbal products.
