    Our PI Tatjana Trtić’Petrović had the pleasure today of giving a talk, “Eco-Friendly Strategies for the Extraction, Enrichment, and Formulation of Bioactive Compounds,” to the Path Research Group at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials – University of Aveiro, where she shared recent results from the VIVENDI project, Fond za nauku Republike Srbije – Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.

    We’re proud to share that members of our team, Tatjana Trtic-Petrovic and Nada Ćujić Nikolić, participated in the 23rd International Symposium on Microencapsulation, held from September 10–12, 2025, in Ferrara, Italy, where they presented the latest Vivendi research results.

    The event covered the latest ideas, technologies, and applications, driving innovation across medicinal products, cosmetics, food and agriculture.

  • Training in microfluidics

    Training in microfluidics

    This August, our young members Dajana Lazarević and Jelena Jovanovic completed training in microfluidics at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Loughborough.

    As part of their training, they carried out experiments on the 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶-𝗰𝗮𝗽𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 — an exciting step forward in exploring advanced encapsulation techniques for natural compounds. They’re getting hands-on experience with this exciting technique, picking up new skills and ideas that we’re really looking forward to bringing back to the lab.

    We are grateful to Dr Goran Vladisavljevic and Nibina Nizar at the University of Loughborough for their support and guidance throughout the training.

    Lecture of Prof. Dr. Goran T. Vladisavljević

    As part of the VIVENDI project, funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, an expert lecture was held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, featuring Prof. Dr. Goran T. Vladisavljević from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Loughborough University, UK.

    Prof. Vladisavljević, a globally recognized researcher in microfluidics and membrane dispersion processes and a member of the Stanford list of the world’s top 2% most influential scientists, delivered a lecture titled: “Generation of Complex Multihierarchical Drops and Microcapsules with Uniform Structure Using Modular Microfluidic Devices.”

    The presentation showcased innovative methods for producing uniform droplets with complex structures using low-cost, patent-protected modular microfluidic devices developed in Prof. Vladisavljević’s lab. These LEGO-like devices, combined with coaxial capillaries, allow for scalable and customizable configurations. Attendees were introduced to techniques for creating single, double, and triple emulsions, as well as examples of microcapsules such as alginate-coated emulsions, encapsulated phase-change liquids, and capsules designed for CO₂ capture from air.

    The LDC1 system utilizes a precision-engineered circular membrane, with a stirrer that generates controlled shear to ensure accurate and reproducible droplet formation. This state-of-the-art technology significantly enhances our research capacity in emulsion and dispersion systems.

  • Presentation of the First Results at an International Conference

    Presentation of the First Results at an International Conference

    We are proud to announce that Dr. Tatjana Trtić Petrović and Dr. Nada Cujić Nikolić successfully presented the first results of the VIVENDI project at the II FoodWaStop Conference, held on March 4–5, 2025, at the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba, Spain. The event was organized by the FoodWaStop COST Action, bringing together researchers dedicated to innovative approaches for food waste valorization.

    Our team presented a poster titled “Sustainable Valorization of Raspberry Pomace Using Biocompatible Ionic Liquids”, showcasing the project’s early findings. The study highlights the potential of raspberry pomace—a by-product of the food industry—as a rich and sustainable source of bioactive compounds. Using green extraction techniques and biocompatible ionic liquids, the research paves the way for eco-friendly and efficient recovery of valuable molecules from agricultural waste.

    First Kick-Off Meeting VIVENDI Project

    The kick-off meeting of the Vivendi project was held online on 13 December 2024 via Google Meet. The meeting gathered team members from Serbia and the UK, including project coordinator Dr Tatjana Trtić-Petrović and Prof. Dr Goran Vladisavljević from Loughborough University.

    The meeting covered introductions, updates on initial project activities, equipment procurement, and the status of the Consortium Agreement. A Project Management Board was officially formed, comprising work package leaders.

    Plans were made to develop the project website and social media presence. The next meeting is scheduled to take place at the Vinča Institute during Prof. Vladisavljević’s visit to Belgrade in January 2025.

    The team expressed great enthusiasm about the project’s potential, marking a promising start to this international collaboration.
